Mariko Masumoto is a fine art photographer based in Kobe, Japan. Mariko Masumoto's work is inspired by nature, especially the sea, waves and the moon. She has deep insight into the human presence in nature and the current of time. This is strongly influenced by the fact that she scattered the ashes of her beloved father into the sea according to his words. She lost her sight in her left eye due to a sudden illness in 2020. Fortunately, she met a good ophthalmologist and was able to recover after an emergency surgery. The morning after the surgery, she was flooded with light. At that moment, she felt as if she had been given a brand new eye of a newborn child. She will never forget the joy and gratitude she felt at that moment. Since then, light has been another great inspiration for her. Mariko is also a poet and combines photography and tanka poetry in her work.
